EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITISATION AND REPROCESSING (EMDR)
EMDR is a treatment that is suitable for trauma and is approved of by NICE.
Currently, I am in training with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing).
I work with people with trauma-related issues or who have distressing memories from their past
e.g. road traffic accidents, bullying, panic, single trauma, etc.
Sessions can be done using a video link, ideally, or in person.
I work as an accredited CBT therapist (BABCP) with DBS enhanced clearance, and am insured.
Sessions are discounted at £35 and last approximately 1 hour.

CBT Therapist
If you are struggling with anxiety or low mood, then I can help. My name is Des Shortt and I am a qualified CBT therapist with over 10 years of experience.
I understand that even seeking help can be a bit stressful, but I provide a warm and supportive environment that will be of benefit to you. With my help, you will learn how to tackle negative thoughts, manage symptoms, and develop new coping skills to improve your overall well-being.
In many cases, a person has struggled , sometimes for years, with their anxiety and low mood. They may have tried self-help books and tried to live with their problems. However, it may take CBT therapy to clarify what is going on. To sort out unhelpful behaviours from helpful ones. And to reduce unhelpful thinking habits.
We work together to find out what you want and how maybe your current thinking and behaviour is interfering with your goals.
Clients can have thinking errors e.g. They may think that other people think badly of them, They may make many negative predictions about their future. They may be highly critical of themselves, which can lead to low self-esteem. And the client may not be fully aware of these unhelpful habits. We look for these unhelpful habits and seek to replace them with more helpful ones.
Generally therapy would be on a weekly basis with a session lasting up to 1 hour. This would be conducted online and materials relevant to the therapy would be sent to the client to aid them.
If you're interested in working with me or have any questions about how CBT can help you, please don't hesitate to send me a message. Let's work together towards a happier and healthier you.
Best wishes,
Des Shortt, CBT Therapist.

Coming from a competitive sports background, the injury that ended up making me give up my career was a hard blow. With therapy, I was able to start building my identity around other things than just sport.
